Identifying a Competence Center

CIM4.0 is the Competence Center set up by the Politecnico and the University of Turin, together with 23 private companies, is based in Turin in the refurbished factories of Mirafiori and represents the strategic and operational support dedicated to manufacturing companies oriented to the digitalisation of industrial processes around Industry 4.0.

If the Competence Center must be a positive charge that drives innovation, it's clear that the identity must reflect its institutional and contemporary role: an excellent test field for "normal" graphics. The language we studied for CIM4.0 is focused on transmitting information in the most "banal" way possible: Helvetica black on white, nothing added, nothing masked.

The ordinariness of this choice, however, did not in any way diminish the functionality of the objects, indeed numerous elements coexist that make the communication recognizable: the use of a blue as identifier for example, or the plus clouds.

For us this type of intervention is not confined to a series of specific materials produced for the Competence Center, but is designed to carry ideas into a contemporary cultural context. There is a clear benefit for the client, who earns extremely direct means of communication, and an even greater one for the public: respect for his attention and his panorama.

We believe that providing useful tools to people and helping to clean the communicative landscape that surrounds us is definitely more important than making a visual identity special, pseudo-technological or "captivating".

The result is a language, a total identity which in all its expressions speaks with a calm and professional tone of voice, without forcibly asking for attention, without shouting its presence - exactly as one would expect from an institution like CIM4.0.
